5ouncesCaramel *(about 2/3 cup plus more for top after baking, if so desired)
Sea Salt Flakes
Instructions
Heat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. As it starts to heat up, swirl the pan around often. Once it melts, let it continue to cook for two minutes.
Remove from heat and add brown sugar and sugar. Stir it for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is nice and glossy and all of the sugars are dissolved into the butter.
Let cool. It can be cooled at room temperature for about 15 minutes or can be put into the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. Add vanilla and then eggs one at a time, stirring after each addition.
Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Optional: Line a 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 baking pan with parchment paper. Pour batter into the pan of choice, smoothing the top with a spatula.
Drizzle the caramel all over the top of the batter. With a knife, swirl the caramel over the top.
Bake until the top is shiny and slightly cracked approximately 20-24 minutes. Let cool before cutting into bars. Drizzle with more caramel and sea salt flakes, if so desired.
