2cupsFlour
2cupsSugar
1teaspoonBaking Soda
1teaspoonSalt
1cupButter
4TablespoonsCocoa Powder
1cupHot Water
1teaspoonVanilla
3/4cupButtermilk
2Eggs
Chocolate Frosting:
1/2cupSalted Butter
1/3 cup + 1 TablespoonCocoa Powder
1/3cup + 1 TablespoonHeavy Cream or Milk
4cupsPowdered Sugar
1teaspoonVanilla
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt.
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add cocoa. Stir together with a whisk.
Add hot water. Bring to a boil for 30 seconds. Turn off heat. Pour into flour mixture and whisk together. It is important to use a whisk to break up any clumps.
Add vanilla, buttermilk, and eggs and fold into mixture. Pour into sheet cake pan (approximately 18 x 13). Bake at 375 degrees for 16-19 minutes.
While cake is baking, make the chocolate frosting. Melt butter in a saucepan. Add cocoa powder and milk. Stir until completely smooth, then turn off the heat.
Pour the mixture into a mixing bowl and add the powdered sugar and vanilla. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, cream together until smooth and creamy. Pour over warm cake.
Cut into squares.
