FAST and EASY HOMEMADE BUTTERMILK BISCUITS

Growing up we ate A LOT of Bisquick. We used Bisquick baking mix for everything from pancakes to biscuits to waffles. The beauty of it was  the convenience of it. One of my favorite things to do was to slather the biscuits with sweet cream butter and homemade raspberry jam.

However, I strongly believe that everything tastes better from scratch so there had to be a better way. I wanted to create an easy, quick homemade buttermilk biscuit that was still buttery and flaky.  Was it possible to create a crisp outer crust and a tender, flaky interior in less than 20 minutes? Forget rolling out the biscuit dough, letting it rest, and cutting it into perfect rounds. There is definitely an easier way!

After trying several recipes, this one takes the cake as the best biscuit recipe. This drop biscuit recipe is adapted from America's Test Kitchen Cookbook. They refer to them as the best drop biscuits for a reason.

How to make out-of-this-world Easy Buttermilk Drop Biscuits:

    1.  Buttermilk is key to making tender and flavorful biscuits. The acidity in buttermilk helps the biscuit to rise and creates a creamy, tender biscuit. It works similar to heavy cream in recipes yet is low in fat. I keep a large carton of buttermilk in my refrigerator at all times because it can transform baked goods.
    2. Butter makes everything better. Right? This recipe calls for a good amount of butter inside the biscuit and it's also brushed on the top of the biscuits after removing from the oven to bring color and even more flavor.
    3. A mix of two leavening agents -- baking powder and baking soda gives the biscuits a nice rise. The addition of buttermilk provides the acid that baking soda needs to react.
    4. These drop biscuits are quick and easy because there is no rolling required. Drop the biscuit dough onto baking sheets and bake until golden brown.

This is one of my go to recipes.
      And, it's quick!
Start the oven, mix it , drop it on a sheet pan when your oven is up to temp.
      Parchment makes for easier cleanup.

This is a great fluffy on the inside, flaky on the outside buttermilk-tasting biscuit recipe. The only thing I did different was go 425 d on convection.

I've been trying for ages to find a quick biscuit recipe and this is my favorite. The biscuits came out of the oven fluffy and perfectly baked. I'm definitely using this recipe to make cheesy garlic and ham/bacon biscuits in the future!

Quick, easy, and delicious! I winged my sizes but made two extra batches after I tasted the first ones out! I have a bunch of buttermilk to use up, and these are worth it! Especially when you don't feel like kneading and folding with all those other recipes! Thank you so much!

These were delicious, I ate two of them straight from the oven with raspberry jam on top and a nice cup of tea! I'm glad I found your website, I see tons more that I want to try out 🙂 As for these biscuits, we don't carry buttermilk in our stores, so I used kefir and it was perfect and so buttery tasting. The kitchen smelled great while they were in the oven too! Kind of reminded of KFC biscuits, but better.

Just made these for dinner tonight. The whole family LOVED them. They claimed the few leftover for breakfast tomorrow. Super easy with few ingredients. Delicious! This recipe is a keeper. I love your site. I know I can find winning recipes here. We also absolutely love your oatmeal pancake recipe. Must have made it a hundred times. My 6 year old daughter actually has taken over making them for us!

Just discovered this recipe during a quick internet search for something to pair with some leftovers. The recipe came together in about 5 minutes and came out of the oven in 12, smelling of biscuit perfection. My family thanks you! Delicious ????

These turned out great! I mixed 1/3 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese and 3 tbsp finely chopped pickled jalapeño into the batter which added so much flavour. I also added 1/4 tsp dried oregano and 1 tsp grated garlic into the butter before melting so the flavours would be infused into the butter- highly recommend adding these ingredients!

I baked mine at 450F because my oven doesn't go to 475F and I baked for a total 17 minutes, flipping them over at the 14 min mark so they wouldn't burn on the bottom.

Overall, a really easy recipe for delicious biscuits; will make again!

Hi! I just made these and that are great! Just wondering if you could forward the dough into biscuits and freeze for later? Great recipe thanks for sharing!

This is a great recipe! Quick and easy and really tasty. I used the quarter cup measure as a form and simply dumped the dough onto the baking sheet. I did not drizzle melted butter after baking as per the recipe ... plenty buttery without ... still slathered butter on at the table! Highly recommend especially if you are pressed for time!

I finally decided to make homemade biscuits instead of bisquick bs. Made these in a pinch this morning and they were quite tasty and much better than bisquick! Made in 20 minutes, gone in 5 minutes! I suggest pairing them with some orange marmalade. These were a hit at breakfast and will be making these again for sure!

This Northern girl cannot make a decent biscuit (after many, many attempts.) I will definitely try these next weekend! I love biscuits. Thanks.
