How to make a Christmas Cookie Box:
Creating a Christmas cookie box is a wonderful way to spread holiday cheer and delight your friends and family with a variety of festive treats. Whether you’re giving it as a gift or setting it out for guests to enjoy, a well-assembled cookie box can be a showstopper.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make a Christmas cookie box:
Step 1: Plan what cookies to include
Start by deciding which cookies and treats you want to include in your Christmas cookie box. A good mix of flavors, textures, and shapes adds variety and makes the box more visually appealing.
- Sugar cookies in holiday shapes, decorated with icing or sprinkles
- Gingerbread or Soft Gingersnap cookies
- Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Shortbread cookies
- Snickerdoodles
- Peppermint Bark
- Peanut Butter Blossoms
- Fudge
- Chocolate Brownies
- Jam-filled Thumbprint Cookies
- Red Velvet Cookies
- Cranberry White Chocolate or Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies
- Chocolate Mint Cookies
Step 2: Bake and Prepare
Now, get to work baking your chosen cookies and treats. Allow them to cool completely before assembling your box. You can make these ahead of time to save effort and time on the day you assemble your cookie box.
A time-saving tip: make your cookie dough ahead of time and keep in the refrigerator until ready to bake.
Step 3: Gather Supplies
To assemble your Christmas cookie box, you will need:
- A sturdy box or tin: You can purchase decorative cookie boxes or simply use a festive tin or a cardboard box that you decorate yourself. I can find boxes at Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, JoAnn’s, Home Goods, and other home stores.
- Parchment paper or festive tissue paper.
- Cupcake liners or mini muffin cups for separating different cookies.
- Plastic wrap or cellophane bags for packaging individual items.
- Ribbons, stickers, or labels for decoration. For an extra luxe Christmas cookie box, I love using velvet ribbon.
Step 4: Assemble Your Cookies
Layer parchment paper or festive tissue paper at the bottom of the box to create a decorative base.
Place your cookies on the parchment paper, arranging them in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Consider using different levels (stacking) to add dimension and visual interest.
For particularly fragile or sticky cookies, use cupcake liners or mini muffin cups to separate them.
Step 5: Package Individually
If you have cookies that could crumble or stick to each other, package them individually in plastic wrap or cellophane bags. This not only keeps them fresh but also makes them easy to share and enjoy.
Step 6: Decorate and Personalize
Add a personal touch to your Christmas cookie box by decorating it. You can tie a ribbon around the box, attach holiday-themed stickers, or create a custom label with a heartfelt message or a list of the treats inside.
Step 7: Presentation
Once your box is beautifully arranged and decorated, close it up and consider adding a handwritten note or a holiday card for an extra special touch.
Step 8: Share the Joy
Now your Christmas cookie box is ready to be shared. The joy of a Christmas cookie box isn’t just in the treats themselves but in the love and care you put into creating it. Enjoy the process and the happiness it brings to others!

My daughter and I love your work. We have made so many of your recipes both savory and sweet. PLEASE publish a cookbook of your work! I would love to own it and give it as gifts.
This orange frosting cooking caught my eye if it wasnโt the day before Iโm traveling I might have bought the ingredients to try this one. Itโs a little different from my grandmothers recipe. But I do have the ingredients for her recipe and Iโm taking the ingredients with me to make with my preschool grand children. I will definitely give it a try next time. All the others look wonderful too. Happy holidays to you and your family!
I love this “book” of unique cookies.
